the story
Paul’s Ministry in Ephesus: The Battle Wasn’t Won in a Day
Paul had promised to return to Ephesus if God allowed it.
Now he was back.
He encountered a small group of disciples, entered the synagogue, and spent months reasoning about the Kingdom of God.
Then resistance hardened.
Paul withdrew but he did not leave Ephesus.
He moved the work into the Hall of Tyrannus and kept teaching.
Day after day.
Month after month.
Year after year.
Until Luke could make an astonishing claim: all the residents of Asia heard the word of the Lord.
The breakthrough at Ephesus wasn’t merely a story of power.
It was a story of endurance.

Behind the story
Why Ephesus Mattered
Three Months in the Synagogue
Paul’s return began where his first visit had left off: reasoning with people in the synagogue concerning the Kingdom of God.
The Hall of Tyrannus
When opposition hardened, Paul changed locations rather than abandoning the mission. The work continued in a public teaching environment.
All Asia Heard
Acts describes the result in extraordinary terms: during this extended period, the word spread far beyond Ephesus itself. Paul’s ministry in Ephesus was becoming something larger than a ministry to one city. As he taught day after day, the message radiated outward until Acts 19:10 could say that people throughout Roman Asia had heard the word of the Lord.
